CYP1A2 is the exact enzyme that determines whether you are a fast caffeine metabolizer, meaning, you can tolerate more, or a slow metabolizer, meaning you can tolerate less. CYP1A2 is responsible for over 90% of caffeine clearance. This gene can even be linked to an increased risk factor for diseases such as Parkinson's, hypertension and heart disease (Eng-King, T, et al., 2007).
This enzyme, CYP1A2 may have two different variations, each of which will play in to how quickly or slowly you will metabolize caffeine following consumption.
